This attractive pottery tile was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and depicts a deer. The deer represents longevity, being the only animal able to find the sacred fungus of immortality.

This is quite a large tile with a length of 29.5 cm, height 17 cm. There is the usual surface wear and chips to the corners but no sign of repair or restoration; very good condition.
