This pottery "cocoon" jar was made some 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a fine-grained grey pottery that has been decorated with cold-painted coloured pigments in a design of swirling cloud patterns within vertical bands. The paint does not extend all around the jar - this is intentional, as though the painted decoration were intended to be viewed from above...

Chinese Qing dynasty hexagonal form Yixing zisha pottery tea caddy or canister. The flat panels are decorated with a dense keyfret pattern. A wood lid covers the high cylindrical mouth. 6 1/4” high x about 5” diameter. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with typical surface wear from age and use. The wood lid doesn't sit perfectly flat. From the estate of a former American expatriate to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

This pottery tile dates to the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and depicts a female entertainer, holding a musical instrument. It is made from a dense grey pottery that is quite highly-fired and "cold-painted" in various coloured pigments, good traces of which remain. Note the flowing robes.

Quite a large tile with a height of 28.5 cm (11.25 inches), width 25.5 cm (10 inches)...
