LARGE Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Camel with TL Test (75cm)

This exceptionally large and impressive pottery model of a camel was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various different coloured pigments. The camel stands upright and alert with its head raised a little.

A set of archaic stone carvings were rarely found in pairs.
Obviously excavated from an ancient noble people's tomb, the pairs was used as protection guardians.
The paired animal was carved in simple form but with strenuous bodies.
In relax and natural crouching postures, the animal was applied with white slip all over the surface as the basic layer, when colorful paint were used to decorate the features.
The paint were already faded away due to age.

Han Dynasty terra-cotta standing soldier. Remnants of the original pigment can been seen over entire forges body. Overall in great original conditions with old repairs customary for such a piece.
