Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsu) Kuro Oribe Chawan from the mid 19th century (late Edo) with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

Poutaï in porcelain enamelled mainly in yellow, details in blue, green, pink, white and gold enamels. The deity is represented seated, relaxed as usual. The jovial expression is well treated. The subject was executed in large quantities but the one we present here today is more interesting than usual because its yellow color is particularly appreciated in China, its expression is beautiful and it is in perfect condition. Underneath there is an intaglio stamp, probably a workshop mark? The clay ...

230.00 Unusual gray stoneware jar found of the West Coast of Sri Lanka. Impossible to accurately identify it’s origin, I am assuming it is from East or Southeast Asia possibly even Japanese. This was acquired in Kandy, Sri Lanka over 20 years ago. I would date this to about 10th to 12th century. The mouthrim is unique, stopper would be inserted and covered than it tied down with a cord. H: 22cm/8.6in x D 17cm/6.8in. Very attractive piece, just a shallow chip on the mouth rim.
