A pottery jar glazed with a green lead glaze. Half of it is still green while the other half has oxidized to a silvery iridescent color. The variance in color is due to how the piece was buried and the effect of moisture getting under the surface of the glaze and "lifting" it to give it the pearl-like sheen. Museum quality ancient Han dynasty, 206 BC – 220 AD, lead green deep dish from Luoyang, Henan Province. Excellent patina with the original silvering left intact on the rim of the dish. The 3rd photo shows a spur mark left by one of the clay firing stilts used to prop the dish to prevent it from sticking to the kiln floor.
