Baluch or Baluchistan is the area between the borders of Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan-- this is why Baluch rugs are said to be a mixture of three different regions.

SOLD Antique hand-woven bamboo basket, originating from the Jarai culture in Vietnam. Secured with wood frame, baskets of this kind were primarily used for collecting and storing rice. The lid is woven with a tall, wood finial with pierced hole for securing it down with ties. The sides of the basket are woven with alternating darker and lighter bamboo to create a pair of bands over a geometric diamond design, with remnants of red pigments.

It was too expensive so it was only worn by wealthy merchants or the samurai class. 3 1/3" cut in the middle, 1 to 2 small hole. Meiji period (1868-1912). 13 1/8” x 111 1/4”

Price on Request An antique Huanghuali Chinese grain storage coffer in a square design. The hinged cover has a floating panel with time honored shrinkage surrounded by a frame. There are four protruding grooved square posts, one per corner that adds a decorative element. Hardware has brass mounts. Through mortise and tenon joinery construction and a beautiful patina acquired over its history. Front slatted moldings and 2 panel replacements using Jichimu wood. In the late Ming style.
