Price on Request An interesting square porcelain brush pot with a long inscription of the Chu Shi Biao composed by the 3rd century strategist, Zhuge Liang. The inscription makes the argument that the state of Shu Han must fight against Cao Wei. The calligrapher at the end signs and dates the piece: The 23rd Year of Kangxi, (inscribed by) Wen Fang. Sold in our Liverpool Shop - June 2015 / 利物浦 店内售出 - 2015年6月 A white porcelain "Blanc-de-Chine" Buddhist Lion incense stick holder in similar style to the larger Guardian Lions which are frequently to be found at the entrances to Buddhist temples. These were probably originally made for domestic home altars and were among the first items to be exported to Europe from China as decorative objects.
This item was made in the kilns of Dehua, Fujian Province, South China ,circa 1640-1660, during the middle of the 17th Century.

Chinese Qing dynasty ornately carved rootwood fly-whisk handle. Fly-whisks were carried by Buddhist priests to wave away flies which, according to Buddhist tenets, they could not kill.
