Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Pottery Buddhist Zodiac Jar

This very rare and attractively-shaped pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province.

Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Double Happiness Ginger jar with old top, Ca. 1900, later part of 1800 to up to 1900, 8" high, 7 1/2" wide-middle section, with typical design of underglaze blue double happiness character among the scrolling vines and snow peas floral decoration. A framed Christian religious painting of Mary with a winged angel bearing the signature and seal mark of Li Tian Duo. This item was painted in China during the either the late Qing or early Republic period. The early 20th Century frame is age worn but the painting is in excellent condition with no stains or damages. Sakiori sodenashi (vest) whose wefts are cotton strips recycled from old cloth. Warps are asa (hemp) and it has hand-stitched sashiko in the upper back. A bronze foodog that was a finial on a larger bronze piece of art. The shishi is well formed with good detail, and has a beautiful patina. The dog/lion measures about 3 1/2" high x 3 1/2" long, and dates to the 19th Century or earlier. The condition is very good. The only damage is to the base where it was broken off. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

A moulded water dropper in the form of a monkey with baby. White stoneware body with cobalt blue decoration, covered with a transparent glaze. Annamese ware ( Vietnam ) fifteenth century. H : 6,4 cm. Chinese gilt temple carving of a Qilin breathing fire. Resembling a fu dog, the creature is a chimera mixed with a lion, a deer, a dragon, and sometimes other animals. The Qilin is said to appear with the arrival and the passing of a sage or high ruler.

Lovely Song Dynasty brown straw glaze jar with four ears. The jar is thin walled and nicely shaped and proportioned. There is expected ware to glaze, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. A very pretty Chinese hand painted underglaze blue planter with double walled side panels. In very good condition with the exception of one corner which was broken and glued back into position. Enlargements of this areas provided, see last photo. It measures 9" long x 6.25" wide x 2" high. Dates late Qing.

A nicely shaped plate with floral design with bat and peach motif painted on the underside for good luck. Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. Nyonya wares were mainly reserved for festive occasions and special functions. Size: 19.5 x 13.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal wear.
