Asa (hemp) noragi (work wear) with fine kasuri pattern which is katazome (stecil-resist-dye) and vegetable indigo dye. Both weft and warp are hand-plied. This kind of thick hemp textiles are found in Tohoku district. Generally in good condition but has some mending patches and stitches and wear in shoulder lines. Late 19th to early 20th century. Fine Thai Ban Chiang Incised Neolithic Pottery Jar (Ex. Christie's)

This pottery jar of rare form dates to the Ban Chiang period (c. 1500 BC - AD 300). It is heavily-potted with a rounded lower body and a wide flared mouth. The body has been decorated with incised geometric patterns. The surface colour of the pottery varies from a reddish-brown to black due to uneven conditions during firing.

An elegant metallic colored set of 2 guinomi and 1 Tokkuri, perfect or sharing chilled sake on a hot summer night, by Masafumi Doi enclosed in the original signed and compartmentalized wooden box titled Tessaiji Shuki (Metal Glazed Porcelain Sake Vessels). Lovely Seto ware chaire (tea caddy) made by Japanese Seto ceramist Kato Bakutai (1861-1943).
The mark of the artist is stamped at the bottom.

Kato Bakutai was a prominent potter who initially worked under Kato Shuntai (1802-1877) being responsible for revival of Seto ware techniques in Japan in the 19th century. He is also known to work with a variety of traditional pottery styles including Shino, Tenmoku, Mishima etc.
