A cloud of terracotta clay floats over rays of white emanating down through the gray body of this object by Kawasaki Chitaru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Light Cloud. The complete lack of glaze accentuates the rich color of the clay body, tiny “tombo-no-me” (dragonfly eyes) salting the surface. It is 20 x 12.5 x 23 cm (8 x 5 x 9 inches ) and in excellent condition, with the artist name and date engraved on the side.

This is a beautifully embroidered Chinese silk fan case, done almost entirely in the Peking knot technique, sometimes called "blind stitch." Both sides of the piece have been embroidered. Areas of the decoration have been skillfully raised to create a "3-D" effect. The embroidery is in exceptional, unfaded condition. Please note that one edge of the case is open, suggesting that the stitching has possibly come undone. Two rosy-pink glass beads are secured to the attached cord. The piece measures...

A massive axe in hand, weighing 3,1 kg. on the kitchenweight.

The axe is made out of greenstone that was polished into the four-sidet shape. 10-12 cm from the edge, the axe ‘hollows’, indicating the place where the axe was fastened to the shaft.

A large and impressive axe measuring: 29,5 x 10 x 5 cm / 11,6 3,9 x 2 inches. The size indicates that t...

An ever-folding band of gold flecked fabric patterned with colors and waves like an elaborate obi (sash) seems to bind the cloak of rough dark clay forming this vase by Nakamura Takuo (Baizan III) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Atop a gilded Karasu-guchi finial, a tradtional shape called a Crows Mouth, provides the top and a spattering of ash sprays out a random pattern against the rigid form. This is an intact and very fine example of this ware which, to me, seems to incorporate a human torso, standing with arms and legs akimbo. The colors are quite vivid, with an aubergine purple in addition to the black outlining. The piece is well and thinly potted, standing some 7" in height. It swells out to some 7" in diameter, measured across the area of the two rings ("lugs").

This is a strong, first edition, first state woodblock print,1849-1850, with clear lines and strong colors. The visible part of the image itself measures 9-1/2" X 14". Examples can be found in the British Museum as well as the Tokyo Museum. Not examined outside the frame, so I cannot state whether the print has been trimmed, or the extent of any foxing, damage, etc. It does not appear to have been glued down inside the frame, but I can't be sure. The following description is taken from the catalo...

This is a beautifully decorated Neolithic vase, standing just over 7" in height. While the body of the vase is intact and free of repair, it appears to me that the top may have been ground down, although I'm not 100% sure. Additionally, one or more of the four horn-like projections near the rim appear to have been reattached and/or replaced. Notwithstanding, the decoration and potting are superb, as the photos hopefully will show. The pricing is based on and reflects the possibility that the pie...

This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on the terrace of a palace. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. The trellised outer border which surrounds the painting itself is embellished with what appears to be metallic silver highlights. The painted area within the trellised frame measures 4-1/4" X 8". Ove...

This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on a pleasure boat, with three female attendants. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. Inscriptions frame the painting, which appears to be taken from a manuscript. The painted area is roughly 4" X 8" and is in excellent condition. Overall the piece measures 12" X...

This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade. In exceptional condition, complete with the orig...
