This is a finely hand-carved netsuke in Kurogaki (Black Persimmon) wood of a large Seated Hotei with a wide Smile, by an unknown artist from the Iwami Province, carved sometime during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Early 20th C Japanese glazed porcelain figure of a puppy, most likely an akita. The puppy is wearing a ruffled collar with bells. If you hold this piece under a bright light, you can see some surface crazing that occurred after firing during the cooling process, which attests to its age. In excellent condition, it measures 5.5" high, 3.5" wide, 4.5" deep.

An antique Japanese Suzuribako (calligraphy writing box) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles on the lid and drawer front.

This box originally functioned as an essential instrument for storing writing paper, brushes, ink and the inkstone. Whether it was a merchant writing a customer receipt or a professional calligrapher writing a personal letter for a farmer, this box was always ready for duty.

An antique Japanese Urushi lacquer Kimono tansu made of Suginoki (Cryptomeria) wood. 6 drawer configuration with bottom two drawers used for Kimono fashion accessory storage. Drawer lock plates feature Paulownia design family crest (Mon). Straight dovetail joinery with hardened wood nail construction. Double set of side carrying handles.

Contemporary uses include using it as a daily dresser drawer or a linen storage cabinet.

An antique Chinese scholar's stand made of natural gnarled twisted hardwood roots with a transparent russet lacquer. This type of natural root furniture goes back to the 12th century aesthetic. Here is an example of the round stand produced during the Republic Period, bearing the colonial form true to the Victorian Era.

This is a finely made Red-underglazed Porcelain Snuff Bottle, of tubular form with straight neck and rolled rim, wide mouth and perfectly circular underglazed foot rim, characteristic of 19th century period bottles. It depicts a dragon that is chasing a tama, amid flickering flames. It has a four-character Iron red Qianlong mark on on its base. It comes with a coral stopper.

This is a fine, well-hallowed, Aventurine Glass Snuff Bottle of robust circular rounded form, with a high rounded neck, a flat wide lip, and a raised oval flat foot. The slightly translucent stone is made up of thousands of clustered gold and bronze colored sand-like particles within a brown colored ground. It comes with a green jade stopper with spoon.

This excellent looking bottle is in remarkable preserved condition.

Early 19th Century, nicely hand-carved and engraved boxwood netsuke depicting a Chinese Sages riding an Ox while holding peonies in both hands, a symbol of prosperity or congratulations between friends. Chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the platform where the ox stands, and continues through any of the spaces made by the legs of the ox. Rich patination. Unsigned.

An antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tsukue made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Two drawers used for the storage of an inkstone and brushes as well as paper for writing transaction records and receipts. The drawer interiors have minor ink stains which is a testament to its usage and function.
