17th Century Japanese paloma wood carving of Buddha seated on a lotus leaf. A beautiful piece with a serene presence. It has a wonderful, warm aged patina. 10 inches, 25.5 cm.

Striking antique Siam mid to late 19th. century Ayutthaya Kampheng head of Buddha Sakyamuni (The Awakened One). His face with serene expression, closed eyes, aquiline nose, smiling lips and elongated earlobes with earrings.

The head is hollow inside and mounted on a wood base. It has a weight of almost 6 kg. No repairs, good condition.

Antique Chinese celadon ware vase or jar with a round, stout body, short neck with two hollow handles, raised lotus petal motif along the bottom. Slightly raised lotuses and sunflowers decorate around the upper body. Longquan celadons were an important part of China's export economy for over five-hundred years (960 - 1644). This is a wonderful bright and colorful wireless cloisonne vase from Kumeno. The vase actually looks more like porcelain than cloisonne enamel. It has a pleasing stout form and is in excellent overall condition with some rim oxidation/wear. It stands 6 inches tall and is 5 inches wide.

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl, thrown from light, coarse Mino clay, with very little inclusions a clay found on earlier Shino bowls. The walls are cut with a potters knife.

The bowl has been covered fully (with the exception of the foot ring) first with an iron bearing engobe (oniita) and after the decoration had been incised with the typical ash and feldspar glaze inside and outside creating the nezumi-shino glaze.

This rare print depicts the murdered Kohada pulling back a mosquito net as he returns to haunt his wife and her lover.

Rare amber Buddhist mala or prayer beads, with 18 large beads for keeping count when reciting a mantra. Each large bead and spacer is carved from old amber tree resin with marbled color of black, red, and yellow. The strand has a tassel on its end.

An antique Japanese 2 section tall Kyoto Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova), Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All iron fittings are original and hand made. Two sliding Keyaki doors the top section open to a spacious storage area behind while a hinged door on the lower section opens to two small drawers.

We present a rare medium sized Tenmoku tea bowl with partrige feather mottles (Chinese: 'Zhegu Ban'), made during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) or earlier. Looking inside this Tenmoku chawan is like glazing deep into the cosmos. There one can understand the meaning of microcosm and ask whether one is looking inward or outward; probably both.
