DESCRIPTION: A large, handsome Burmese wood sculpture of a male Nat, or nature spirit, dressed in traditional attire and engaged in a joyful dance. Such images were first carved from wood, then laboriously decorated with applications of red lacquer then gold gilt. Dating from the early 20th C., it has been mounted on a rod with square base. DESCRIPTION: A pair of polychrome figures engaged in joyful dance, one male and one female, mounted on display stands. These colorful hand carved figures, called "Nats" or nature spirits, are dressed in traditional Thai costumes with the male figure wearing a tiger head cap. Prior to the advent of Buddhism, the Thai people were animists who worshipped a series of nature spirits called Nats. Later these were incorporated into Buddhism and often Nat statues will be found in Buddhist temples...

A very serene and friendly/smiling SHAN STATE SOLID WOODEN BUDDHA with traces of gilding. Very well preserved! 18th Century, Burma. Size: 55.3 cm. x 25.8 cm. Good overall condition and a very fine piece bringing peace and happiness!

A divine, smiling SHAN STATE BRONZE BUDDHA subduing Mara position, sitting on a high stepped throne. Good condition overall, has some naturally formed verdigris patina and very little soil remnants. Size: height 16 cm x width at base 9.5 cm. (6 1/4" x 3 3/4"). Very fine Buddha statue!

A wood panel depicting the flying Apsaras was in good condition.
Obviously a part of building structures, this ancient wood carving of the Apsaras was well rendered in animated posture.
The wood texture was revealed by enduring age.

Charming bronze figure of the reclining Buddha. This stage depicting the death of his body and his attainment of the realm of his true self and ultimate enlightenment is called Mahaparinirvana. He is beautifully sculpted with an expression of peace and his body is relaxed. Wonderful attention to detail and overall very pleasing form. Thailand. c.1900. Size: 24" long x 7" deep x 7" high

A beautiful Thai painting portraying a Jataka tale. A royal chariot of with the future Buddha before he renounced his royal position. At the bottom of the painting four devotees are holding lotus buds perhaps indicative of another time frame. Done with mineral pigments and the most exquisite coloration. This thai painting was part of a Buddhist prayer book. On the backside a message in is beautifully written. Age: 18th-19th century. Size: 11.625"H x 8.625"L

Large antique Tibetan chest/trunk painted with a deep red background in front, with a coiled dragon within a large cloud-shaped border. Red and gold painted flowers with long, deep green stems fray out from behind the dragon and reaches inwards from the sides of the chest, with small green birds perching on either side of the dragon...

Antique Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze statue of the deity Kubera, lord of wealth and protector over the world. He is typically shown holding a bag of jewels or fruit in one of his hands and a mongoose in the other. The mongoose symbolizes Kubera's victory over the Naga, or snake people, who watch over large hoards of treasures. The mongoose is also said to spit out jewels every time it opens its mouth. The statue is sculpted incredibly well, with natural patina and traces of pigments...

Topoke spear currency. Forged iron mounted on black iron stand. Equatorial Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Large forged blades such as this in the shape of a spear point were well used in the middle of the 20th century. As currency and during marriage ceremonies, they are known under several names; Di hunga (small form), doa the larger example spear form. Antique Tibetan silver statue of Padmasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche, an 8th century Buddhist master in India. He is said to have lead the first Nyingma traditionalist teachings in Tibet, the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He sits on a lotus throne, holding a vajra in his right hand and, in the other, a kapala (skull cup) filled with the elixir of life, the vase of longevity, topped with a small tree to grant wishes...

The three-sided style of the phurba comes from an ancient tool used to pin down sacrifices. The phurba has 3 segments to represent its power to transform negative energies. These energies are known as the "three poisons" and are attachment, ignorance, and aversion. The 3 sides of the phurba also represent the 3 spirit worlds and the phurba itself unites those worlds. The handle of the phurba represents "wisdom" while the blade represents "methods"...

An original Tibetan trunk, all hand-painted in red pigment with yellow pigment motifs of flowering vines and central mandala wheel. The sides of the chest are carved with foliate edge apron just below the iron locking clasp. The trunk's lid lifts away to access the roomy interior.

A 2,000 year rare carved center agate bead with three distinctive colors surrounded by round agate beads with gold spacers of the same period. The top of the necklace is made of ceramic beads from that period. Size: Center bead is 3.5 cm. (1.2 inches) Necklace is 48 cm. (19 inches) from end to end. Condition: Perfect.

Antique Tibetan repousse plaque depicting a flying Kinnara or Apsara, celestial beings similar to the Western concepts of angels. The high relief image is done with gold gilt over copper with natural patina from oxidation.
