A very fine example of Burmese lacquer ware, dating from the Mandalay period, ca. late 19th/early 20th century. Apart from sone minor chips to the lacquer and normal age wear, this offering bowl is in excellent condition. H. 58 cm. Diameter 31 cm.

Lovely old Burmese lacquer box with a finely woven lattice work, insert lid (I assume to keep the flies off your “tiffin”) or used to sieve. Circa 60-90 years old, it is very thin and lightweight and the body is constructed of bamboo., I acquired this in a Pagan, lacquer shop about 20 years ago. Excellent original condition with minor lacquer loss at the bottom’s edge as to be expected from a genuinely old piece. D: 30.5cm/12in and H: 16cm/6.2in.

Charming box with sliding lid at the top carved into the shape of an elephant, circa early 20th century with traces of original lacquer. Please examine the enlargements to see the harness and trappinsg carved into the body. Good condition. L: 17.5cm6.9in and H: 10.2cm/4in.

Very fine, complete (both original inner trays included) betel box in excellent condition circa first half 20 the century. Composed of red, black and green lacquer depicting monkeys against an abstract foliate background. Some surface craquelure as to be expected on old lacquerware. D: 18.5cm/7.2in and H: 10.5cm/4.1in.

Lovely old Burma betel/siri/pandan box-a rare find with complete and original trays circa 1940 to 1950, and no restoration. The lid is semi domed with 8 planets pattern and central peacock medallion, the side has dancers and an assortment of abstract mythical beasts. Minor losses to lacquer on the lid (please see enlargements). Signed in Burmese script Saya(Sir)Kyi ~Myingabar Quarter,Pagan. Please see last enlargement for reference. Exceptionally rare early 20th century small, complete betel box with za-yun pattern, emulating English embroidery stitching. There are some cracks on the lacquer surface as well minor losses on the edge (especially on the inner box) all visible in enlargements. This is a specialist’s collector piece, for real lovers of Burmese lacquer. H: 8.4cm/3.3in and D:11.6cm/4.4in

A set of rare and complete Burmese metal manuscript (KAMMAVACA) made from metal coated with gold and lacquer in nice condition. It was written in the Pali language using Burmese script. The square letters were written in thick and black cinnabar lacquer. This set has 16 leaves and 2 wooden covers made from teak wood. Each leave was inscribed on both sides with illustrations of deity figures from Hindu-Buddhist mythology on some leaves...

Rare wide brimmed Tibetan hat, meant to be worn by reincarnated lamas of a high-rank, called Tulku, who have the power to choose their manner of rebirth. It is covered in a copper/gold lacquer over incised designs with coiled dragons, flowers, and various Buddhist symbols. The inner part has pierced characters and a raised design, and is topped with a bronze and quartz finial with auspicious designs. Inside of hat has an illegible signature. 17th century Size: 14.75" wide, 6" tall

The cup of rounded polygonal form with thin sides rising from a decagonal splaying foot, the exterior extremely finely inlaid with various typically Thai designs and motifs in mother-of-pearl against a black lac ground...

Very rare late 19th century small lacquer box with a bird in concentric circles on both concave top and bottoms unusual simple geometric designs on the side. For a box of this age, it is in very good condition some loss to lacquer on the edges and bottom of lid. For the specialist collector of Burmese lacquer ware. D: 10.1cm/4in and H: 7.1cm/2.8in.

Rare late 19th/early 20th century Thai tobacco/betel box, with original inner tray. Minor losses to lacquer and the footrim repaired and replaced. Stunning delicate deep dark red and black floral scroll pattern. D: 19.5cm/7.8in and H: 7.4/2.9in.

A rare antique Cinnabar Red Lacquer Basket from Northern Thailand. 19th Century. A very labour intensive handmade procedure where woven and coiled bamboo and clay formed the base of this container. Furthermore, 6 ribs were bent and curved to form feet at the base. The top was curved and rolled inwards and many coats of lacquer were applied over and over after drying each one. Overall condition good, some wear, size: 17.5 cm. height x 38 cm. top diameter, 24 cm. bottom diameter.

A large betel-box "kun it" with one internal tray, made of woven and coiled split bamboo covered with lacquer. The slightly domed lid and the drum with yun decoration of king and court scenes and several inscriptions. The interiors with plain cinnabar red lacquer. Condition: traces of usage, some age cracks and wear, rim and lacquer losses, lid with a damaged area. Dimension: diameter: c. 23 cm, 21.3 cm high. Provenance: Swiss collection.
