This is Yogi used in a rich merchant's family of Akita for Edo period. This is drawn in good-quality Tsutsugaki. As for this, a Chinese phoenix drawn boldly is very impressive. It is very elegant. As for this, cotton is spun by hand and is thick. As for this, cotton cloth of the lining is dyed into deep green. Good-quality Tsutsugaki often uses it to lining. Exquisite glazing featuring a gradation that seems a product of both firing conditions and careful nurture by the artist. This piece displays a wonderful balance and nice sense of three-dimensionality.

In fine condition, this tea bowl measures 4.7 inches in diameter (11.8cm) and stands 3.3 inches tall (8.2cm). The bowl comes with its own wood box with poetic name "朝日" (Asahi) inscribed on the inside cover.

Antique Japanese 4 panel screen with rooster and hen. This unusual screen has gold lacquered open lattice work backed with the original sheer white silk. A beautiful scene of a blossoming plum tree, yellow daisies and chickens makes up the carved and painted foreground. The bottom portion of each panel is pierced carved and painted with scenes of rocks and cymbidium orchids.

Meiji Period (1868-1912)

Size: 42" high x 60" wide.
