A powerful Chossen-Karatsu mimitsuki hanaire flower vase by Nakagawa Jinembo (Jinenbo b. 1953) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Licks of blue fire rim the blast of pale white covering the upper reaches of the dark earth. The shape is hammered and beaten by the flame, shinshoku wear from the extreme heat beginning to degrade the lip. Japanese choba from Sakata area, Japan. Made entirely of Keyaki wood (elm) with burl wood. Heavy iron hardware, including elaborately cut lock plates with square shaped handles, the side has warabite shaped handles. The pulls for opening the sliding panels are inlaid with mother of pearl and edge with carved persimmon. Interior has one shelf. Well crafted joinery and tenons original lacquered finish in excellent condition...

This is traditional Bugaku- clothes of the Edo era. This is the form that is traditional in silk twill fabrics. It has two extremely small holes. There are no stain and damage. The pattern is Ganryo- dyeing. It can be hardly exhibited at the market. Size 193cm x 186cm (75.9 "x 73.2")

Japanese antique bronze censor, decorated all over with archaic motifs and scrolling vines, stands on three legs with heads of horned mythical creatures, the base is covered with rolling waves, handles in the form of fu-dogs, lid is covered with clouds and topped with a fu-dog, rectangular cartouche on bottom, illegible. Taisho Period. Size: 24 1/2" high x 15 1/2" wide.

A rare Japanese okimono depicting the seated bodhisattva of compassion with serene facial expression. Made of bright bronze alloy, maybe shibuichi, and fine inlays in silver, gold and enamel. The base with signature. Condition: no damage, few traces of wear. Dimension: 11.1 cm high, weight: 572 g.

A finely done Japanese bamboo basket used as a flower container made by the second Shochikusai. The handle is done in a way as if the vine appears to grow out from the basket and fine strips of bamboo are woven throughout the vase. Fine woven bamboo baskets require the highest skills to create the rhythmic geometric patterns and form. Age: Showa Period Size: length 10" width 6.5" height 18.75"

A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. An antique blue and white Imari porcelain decorated with landscapes and ginko leaves. The landscape is portraying the view of the noted Song Dynasty literati scholar, Su Dongpo having a boat ride at Red Cliff. The motif is based on a hand scroll written by Su Dongpo reminiscing of the fun he had with his friends and the poems that were composed. The inscription is a summary of the landscape and the party he held on the boat. Age: Meiji Period Size: diameter 8" height 4"

A fine and interesting bronze sculpture of a lady selling fish. The figure is holding a basket of fish with a humorous looking octopus wanting to jump out of the basket. Often during the Meiji period, figures from daily life such as sellers of various produce and products were created for the Euro-American market where the charm and simplicity appealed to collectors. The base contains a cartouche seal of the artist, Seikoku. Age: Late Meiji- Taisho Period Size: length 9" width 8" height 19.5"

An unusual hira natsume decorated with motifs of a cicada, dragonfly, spider, snail, cricket, and frog. A few insects are closely associated with the various seasons. For example, the cicada and snail are summer insects, the dragonfly and cricket are autumn. In addition, the insects have allusions to zen and Japanese philosophies. A splendid tea container decorated with hydrangeas done in makie. The container is known as a hira natsume, where the wide structure is a signature element.
