A masterpiece of Akahada Pottery ware in the shape of a wooden bucket with elaborate scrolling feet from the kiln of Okuda Mokuhaku. It is 18 x 18 x 19 cm (7 x 7 x 7-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition, enclosed in a modern wooden collector’s box.
Okuda Mokuhaku (1800-1871) was born the son of a merchant in Sakai Machi Yamato Koriyama in Nara Prefecture that served the local lords with hair ornaments, make-up supplies and other fashionable items...

Two Kome-bukuro (rice bag) made of cotton fragments which are hand-spun and vegetable indigo dye. They are stripes, kasuri and fine katazome (stencil-resist dye). Both have writing with sumi, Echizenya, the shop's name and "Hane" which is located in Shimane prefecture facing to the Japan Sea. Kome-bukuro was used when people dedicated rice or grains to temples or shrines. Both are in excellent condition, bags and strings. 19th to early 20th century. Rice bag made of hand-spun and vegetable indigo dye cotton fragments which are kasuri, katazome (stencil-resist dye) stripes etc. It was used when people dedicated rice or other grains to temples or shrines. It has beautiful fine katazome cotton cloth for lining. In good condition but string in the hem is damaged and cord for binding is lost. 19th to early 20th century. W:37cm, H:27.5cm

The cigarette holder is made of iron decorated with a damascened dragon in gold, silver and sentoku (copper alloy). On the reverse is represented Mount Fuji damascened in silver, at the bottom right the mint mark as well as the "24 carat gold" guarantee...

A marine ivory okimono, depicting a Ryu dragon fleeing upwards into the clouds passing under the arm of a character sitting on the tatami. Signature 'Gekko (?) tō' 月古かたな engraved under the base. Kogo box 香合, incense and perfume holder, in polychrome enamels in the cloisonné technique with a turquoise background depicting a mandarin duck. On the sides there are floral motifs of bamboo and lotus flowers. The turquoise background evokes the image of crystal clear waters and clear skies. The interior is covered with an original fabric. Table screen composed of four cloisonné panels worked in the ginbari technique with translucent enamels on a red background decorated with polychrome irises. The red background provides a contrast for the polychrome irises, which represent the rebirth and beauty of nature. On the back of the screen the swallows are engraved on silver metal. Bronze okimono from the Tokyo school, depicting a farmer with a basket, which contains seeds. The farmer is represented in a working position, intent on sowing seeds. Ivory okimono depicting Hotei, one of the seven Sages of Good Luck. He is depicted smiling and sitting on his sack, while he holds the stick. Next to him there is a child who hugs the end of the sack. Signed Tomihiro under the base. Origin: Japan Period: Meiji end of 19th century. Dimensions: 5.5 x 17 x 4 cm. A classic bun-shaped Koro incense burner by Miyagawa Chozo pierced with Incense-clock-patterns enclosed in the rare original signed wooden box. It is 8.8 cm diameter, 7.5cm tall and is in excellent condition. The box contains a hand written note in old Japanese describing the origins of Makuzu-ware.
Miyagawa Chozo (1797-1860), also known as Chobei was born a direct descendant of Chokansai and would be the father to Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan I (1842-1916)...

A fabulous Rootwood stand of dark red hardwood with a web of interlacing root-legs beneath. It is 48 x 32 x 8 cm (19 x 12-1/2 x 3 inches) and is in overall fine condition, dating from the first half of the 20th century.

This amazing piece, fresh from the kiln in April, is titled Mio, perhaps a play on the artists name, this kanji character meaning water which has pooled and collected. When looking at this piece, all the glaze has run down the body, filling the scalloping exfoliation with pools of lapiz blue. It is 27 x 30 x 58 cm (11 x 12 x 23 inches) and is in excellent condition.

A Brooding new sculpture fresh from the kiln this year by Yamaguchi Mio titled Cave. It is 25 x 23 x 40 cm (roughly 10 inches diameter, 16 inches tall) and in excellent condition, directly from the artist.
Yamaguchi Mio was born in Aichi prefecture in 1992, and graduated advanced studies at the Aichi University of Education in 2017. While still at university, her works were selected for show at the JoryuTogei Ten Female Ceramic Artist Association Exhibition (2014)...
