sold, thank you A classic mid 20th century Dry-lacquer vase by Kawai Masazo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Rankaku (crushed egg shell) on cream colored lacquer alternating with highly polished black. This work truly encapsulates the freedom for form which artists were seeking in the post war period. It is 45 cm long and in excellent condition.

The slippery creature is 30.5 cm (12 inches) long and in excellent condition, signed with an incised signature beneath. Kome Jiichi (1896-1985) He was born in Toyama prefecture, on of the traditional homes of bronze work in Japan. He graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts studied under Takamura Kouun. sold, with thanks! An unusual long inverted pottery cone on a silver plated base by Kiyomizu Rokubei VI enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Gengama Senmon Kabin. It is 15 inches (38 cm) tall and in excellent condition. Rokubei began experimenting with these fluted froms in the 50s, and what he called “Gengama” glazes around 1960. My guess is that this piece dates circa the early 60s. I have never seen another example like this with a metal base...

sold This interesting piece is a ko-karatsu ware ( old Karatsu ). This appellation designates early pottery from the kilns of the town of Karatsu, located on the island of Kyushu, Japan. The date of the foundation of the first karatsu kilns is uncertain, but there seems a consensus for it to be around the beginning of the 16th century during the late Muromachi period ( 1336-1573 )... Japanese Antique Raku Teabowl (Chawan) made during Mid-Edo Period (1603-1868).
Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century. The seal of the potter is stamped at the bottom. Size 2.613in. (6.7cm.) high; 4.212in. (10.8cm.) diameter; 230g weight. Condition Good considering the age. There is a chip at the rim. Please see the photos for details. No cracks. $325.00 This is a fabulous woven silk fukusa designed with Japanese tastes in mind. It is woven in silk with the addition of gold lacquered silk threads. Each of the four corners has four turtle tassels. The reverse side is red with a gold paulownia mon also woven with god threads. This is a very striking piece and makes a superb interior design statement. In excellent condition, it measures 24.5” square. We date this to mid-Showa.
