A rare okimono from the Kairakuen Kiln of the Tokugawa branch family dating from the early to mid 19th century. The box label attributes these to Eiraku (presumably Hozen, who was tasked with helping to further the ceramic production of the kiln). The rooster is roughly 7 inches tall the same in length (18 cm). Dating from the later Edo period, they come in an old wooden box with a cloth cover and are in excellent condition...

Exquisite pair of lacquered wood temple lotus offering stands in lotus motif. The Lotus is the penultimate buddhist symbal of purity. The base is a lotus with lotus flowers on the stem and lotus cup at the top. Minor lacquer wear but in fabulous condition for its Meiji Period C.1890 age. 12" tall and 6" wide.

A plum by Yumei Sosho of Sokokuji temple timidly opens its blossoms under a brief epithet by Taishitsu Sosho of Daitokuji temple. A rare gassaku work by these two priests. Ink on paper in original border, ivory rollers dated 1808. The ivory rollers will be replaced if shipping overseas. The scroll is 12 x 71 inches (31 x 180 cm). Overall it is in fine condition considering the age, however does cup some in the center and there are some marks mostly visible in the upper and lower borders...

So rare! Wonderful Gozu Aka-e Mizusashi by greatest Eiraku Zengoro Hozen, made during the Japanese Edo Period. It is in perfect antique condition without cracks or repairs.

The red and green scroll work in over glaze enamels on a white crackled ground is superb and well balanced. The round Eiraku seal is on the lower side.

Two matching Japanese chargers, done with the Imari pallet, and dating to the mid 19th Century. Decorations include a foo dog, dragons, and cranes among flowers and scrolls. A Japanese Butsudan, or Buddhist shrine for in-home use. The exterior of the shrine is lacquered in red with black lacquer and gold gilt pigments. The gilt hardware of the butsudan are highly ornate with motifs of chrysanthemums, lotuses, vines, and dharmachakra wheels. The lower area of the shrine features two pull-out platforms and hidden drawers...

Two matching small Imari dishes with high quality applied decoration, including the "three gentlemen" at the center of each dish (pine, bamboo, and plum blossom). The dishes have a scalloped edge, and have a stylized Ching Dynasty, Yung Cheng, reign mark on the recessed base. With imagery of blue and gilt enamel phoenixes against a ground of red cherry blossoms, blue waves, floral medallions and gilt outlines. The long slightly fluted neck with medallions on a gilt design ground and gilt rim, tapered to a rounded body with short tapered foot, blue lotus petals and double ring above the foot, each vase signed with a Fukugawa mark signifying the pieces date from 1900 - 1920...

A porcelain dish from the Imari Kilns of Japan, that was made during the 19th Century. The dish is six sided with scalloped edges, has a center bouquet of vined flowers, and has border scenes of a flying dragon and temples. The plate measures about 13 1/2" in diameter x 2" high. The condition is very good with some wear to the design and on the gold covered rim. There are three very small edge frets that you can feel, but are too small to show in a picture...

A bronze foodog that was a finial on a larger bronze piece of art. The shishi is well formed with good detail, and has a beautiful patina. The dog/lion measures about 3 1/2" high x 3 1/2" long, and dates to the 19th Century or earlier. The condition is very good. The only damage is to the base where it was broken off. An antique book bound in green kinrande silk decorated with the Tokugawa family crest (of the Shogun) woodblock printed with scripture wrapped in a hand painted silk cloth enclosed in a black lacquered wooden box decorated with the Tokugawa Crest and the Jodo-shu Symbol of Chion-in. The book is wrapped in a cloth hand painted with a prayer from Meiji 22 (1889). The box is lined with genuine gold gilding...

Japanese two section tansu, made with Kiri (paulownia) wood with natural finish front drawers, and original black lacquered frame. The piece has pine tree shaped hand-forged iron lock plates, with warabite iron pulls. The locks are incised chrysanthemums and the corner hardware is fan iron plating. The piece holds a side lock box with a large decorative iron chrysanthemum plating and keyhole. Inside the box are two small drawers with triangular plates and round pulls...

Unusual Japanese gyosho bako tansu (merchant's chest). With original red lacquer finish, this large piece holds three very deep drawers, each with squared kakute iron pulls on stylized pine tree mounts. The top drawer features a large central lock with flying crane motif, while the lower drawers feature chrysanthemum locks. The sides of the tansu also have two handles for traveling.
