WOODEN CANDY MOLD AND HOW-TO BOOK ON SWEETS

Set of wooden mold for making rakugan (hard candy) from Showa period, mid 20th century, and illustrated book for how to make various types of sweets from Taisho 2 as 1913. The mold had been actually used at that time. The book is written well-detailed contents including the guide for use of materials or retail price, etc...

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Irozaki Morning" dated in the left margin Showa 36 (1961). The artists's black ink signature and red seal are at the lower right corner. The print is pencil-signed and titled in English in the lower margin. Paper size: nearly 11" x 15" (image: 9 9/16" x 13 3/16"). Never framed and in very good overall condition. The paper is slightly wavy.

Stunning, bold art deco Shigaraki wood-fired ceramic plate. Full of feldspar or long life stones unique to Shigaraki clays. Some kiln scars made during firing but the glaze has oozed out of the crack in the back indicating a natural firing scar. Diameter: 20". Great condition. Ca. 1970

The artist's square red seal is at the lower right corner of the image. This print features the highly embossed ideographs characteristic of Maki's work. The designs were created by inscribing on wet cement. Paper size: 17" x 17 1/4" (image size: just under 16" x 16"). Very good overall condition.

Japanese bronze of a mouse holding a hazelnut between its paws, wax cast in Takaoka.

The mouse or the rat are both referred indistinctly by the term nezumi in Japanese. It is a zodiac sign and a symbol of wealth.

On its right side, seal “Taka” (孝).
