Antique Japanese shinto mirror, tenka ichi. This mirror has a tassle tied through a turtle. The central motif is of a turtle over bamboo meeting the beaks of two cranes. The birds and turtle are on a beach with pine trees and bamboo bushes. This mirror would have been placed along with three others at the entrance to a shrine for those entering to see their reflection as they entered. Made of bronze, Edo period (c1800).
It measures 4 5/8" by 1/2" deep.

DESCRIPTION: A Japanese Sumida vase with round neck covered in a rich, thick flambé glaze running to the shoulders, with a high relief figure of a monkey balanced on a rocky ledge. In his right hand the monkey holds a peach (symbol of longevity) he has pulled from a green vase; these are all contrasted against the ribbed red body of the vase. Excellent condition with no chips; signed "Ryosai" on the base...

This is a water pot called SUITEKI made of Japanese copper ware. SUITEKI is one kind of the tools for calligraphy. It is used to pour water into an ink stone.

Japanese Imari Porcelain Black Ship and Namban design Bowl and Cover, 3 1/4" high & 5 1/8" diameter-with cover, 2 1/4" high & 4 3/4" diameter-bowl, later part of 1800's Meiji period, with overglaze decoration of six(6) Dutchmen and black ship in iron red background, highlighted in gold. Underglaze blue decoration of diaper pattern borders inside the bowl and under the lid, floral decoration on the bottom and the cover. The condition is good, no damage or restoration.

'Remote Landscape' by Tanomura Chokunyu (1814~1907)

Chokunyu was the step son of Tanomura Chikuden and he studied Chikuden's work. Chokunyu started to learn from Chikuden when he was 9 years old, and Chikuden found his talent and adopted him. Chokunyu learned Confucianism from Tsunoda Kyuka and Chinese poetry from Hirose Gyokuso. He also learned and got skills of Omotesenke Tea Ceremony, Kodo (Japanese art of appreciating incence) and Kenjutsu (the art of the sword)...

This beautiful chawan (tea bowl) was made in the oribe style, a more than four hundred year old tradition from the central part of Japan in the ancient Mino province.

That tradition was in part influenced by tea master and warrior Furuta Oribe (1545-1615) who developed his own style of tea ceremony. The bowl is very well made and in perfect condition. It dates from the mid Edo Period and has no repairs or damages except inborn kiln cracks...

A small but highly detailed Satsuma vase decorated with Sino-Japanese motifs. On one side of the vase is literati scholars enjoying a conversation bordered with a detailed geometric pattern. A hexagonal faceted gourd shaped vase decorated in a style not often found in traditional Kutani ware, but more so in traditional Japanese kinrande style porcelains. A large, and heavy, Stick Stand, ( for holding walking sticks and umbrellas), profusely decorated, in Satsuma style, with a panapoly of historical scenes enclosed within elaborately enamelled textile (?) patterns and surmounted by a large coiled dragon amongst stylized clouds.
