Single section Mizuya (kitchen buffet tansu) with set of four sliding Keyaki panels opening to a open space with a single removable shelf inside. Lined along the bottom are a set of 5 pull out drawers with beautifully finished quartered sawn keyaki drawers.
Hand forged iron hardware. Natural blond finished with fine carpentry details. Overall in very good condition. Ready to go!

Japanese contemporary Kaidon tansu known as a step tansu. Comprised of three sections. Made with solid Keyaki (elm) wood, this tansu will hold many precious things within its various size drawers and compartments. Each compartment opens from both sides, so this Kaidon can be facing either direction. Its doors feature vertical slats to create an interesting contrast of texture and design...

Small shrine with double hinged doors. Inside three sculptures of a female in dancing pose, holding an open fan and two males, sitting in front of the female. The old man at the left hand side holds bells in his right hand, in his left he held something that is missing today. The man on the right hand side held something in his right hand, now missing. Judging the faces they could be Daikoku, Ebisu and Benten. Three figures elaborately carved in plain wood, their bases decorated in color...

Japanese late 19th or early 20th Century porcelain vase. Made by artist SUWA SOZAN. Stamp of artist on bottom of vase. Comes with TOMOBAKO, original artist's box. The side of the vase has small raised rectangular areas which have design of fish, snail, chrysanthemums, peaches, shellfish, butterfly, phoenix and Japanese shishi lion. The vase is 10" tall and 9 1/2" in diameter.

Japanese Buddhist scroll painting with the image of Amida raigo, the descent of Amida Buddha from the Western Paradise to earth. He comes down to transport the newly deceased devotee to the Western Paradise. In the middle Amida, to his right the bodhisattva Seishi, hands folded in prayer, to his left Kannon holding the lotus throne for transporting the deceased to Paradise. A ray of light comes from Amida’s urna. All three figures are standing on lotus thrones, floating on white clouds...

Japanese Mid - Late 20th century bronze vase with crane design by NEYA CHUROKU (1897-1987). The vase has a standing crane holding its head and neck up on the front and a crane bending down in the back. The bottom has the Churoku mark. Neya Churoku, a student of Tsuda Shinobu, exhibited at many exhibitions including the 1933 World Exhibition in Chicago and the 15th Teiten (1934) where he won the Tokusen (grand prize). Exceptional Gonin Bayashi Five Musician set for the Hina Matsuri (Girl's Day) celebration. Just a wonderful grouping: a chanter, flute player, two hand drummers and a floor drummer, each with an expressive and well-modeled face, finely carved fingers and hands in precise gestures for their individual instruments, sumptuous silk brocade costumes, short swords, silk fiber hair, and large inset glass eyes. They are of the finest quality. 7 inches, 18 cm tall.

From our Japanese Collection, a large and very regal pair of imari vases, Meiji Period 1868-1912, beautifully executed in traditional palette of iron red, orange, blue, and gilt on a white porcelain body, with kiln marks to the base.

Size and Condition: 12 1/4 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches wide. Some light rubbing to the gilt in places commensurate with age and handling, but essentially perfect condition.

Rare Japanese spear (Yari) from the early 19th century. striking blade with three edges. Lacquered red cap to protect blade. Hand forged iron fittings.
