EUR €2,800 A Japanese extraordinary polychrome ivory netsuke depicting a lively monkey. The monkey is shown holding a giant peach branch with its right hand, with a strong expression of satisfaction on its face. With its other hand, it scratches its back, adding a touch of realism to the scene.
Himotoshi holes under the belly.

The Oriental Room
On Hold A Chinese Yue Celadon Glazed Chicken-Head Ewer. Circa, 220-589, Six Dynasties.
This jar features a compressed globular body with a short neck that flares to a thick upper flange which is slightly depressed in the center. Opposite its thick curved handle is a chicken-head spout. Two lug handles set on its shoulders and is covered with a green celadon glaze. Its base is unglazed exposing a compact grey stoneware clay.

The netsuke is signed Masanao 正直 within an oval reserve under the base.

The netsuke is signed Deme Saman 出目左滿.

He stands on a lotus base, with a flame like mandala rising up behind him in the shape of a jewel, the entire gilded in pure gold worn soft with age and care. The decor represents many children, seated in a building in front of a covered vase, perhaps a funerary urn. Dominating the assembly, the central character of a trio is the only one wearing a hat. Above the trio three Chinese characters are drawn in red on a panel. It seems to be a religious ceremony but the youth of the assembly is perplexing. sold, thank you A masterpiece by Shigaraki Icon Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Shizen-yu Mentori Hanaire. She was well known for both her Mentori works, and the exuberant amount of ash accumulated from the 10 plus day firings of her kiln. This is a prime example of both those features. It is 24.5 cm (just udner 10 inches) diameter, roughly the same height, and in excellent condition.
