Waves of color belt this unusual form by Usui Kazunari enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 20 inches (50 cm) tall, roughly 8 inches (20 cm) diameter and in fine condition.
Usui Kazunari was born in Seto city, Aichi in 1954, and graduated the Nagoya University of Art, sculpture division in 1977. He immediately apprenticed under Kato Shuntei, where he remained until establishing his own kiln in 1983. He has been often displayed at the Nihon Dento Kogeiten and Nihon Togeiten...

Hanging scroll. The eight-armed deity, bearing arms and jewels, and a coiled snake (the deity Ugajin) on her head, sits on a lotus-leaf-seat, flanked by Daikoku. Before her are the 15 disciples, or jugo doji. Ink, mineral colors, gold and gofun on silk. Japan, Edo period, 18th century.

This is one of the best Shounai-Noren used in Shonai, Yamagata area for Edo period. As for the hemp of this item, a delicate thread spun by hand is used. The pattern is full of Chadougu which was popular in Shikoku. Chadougu is an instrument used at tea ceremony. The Chadougu design reached shounai by a goods-carrying merchant ship. The artist Fujita displayed cloth full of Chadougu in the atelier of Japan. There was the picture near a great painter without sense of incongruity...

Few foreign potters are able to embrace the Japanese aesthetic as well as Jeff Shapiro. Here is a piece from his second solo exhibition in Tokyo dated 1991. This piece is 9-1/2 inches (24 cm) tall, 9 inches (23 cm) diameter and in excellent condition.

A hermitage lost in the early blossoms of the plum forest, ink and light color inside a wide gold border and mulberry frame typical of the Taisho era. Gold powder has been liberally applied intimating a shimmering mist throughout, creating an ethereal quality. A beautiful Japanese cloisonne enamel tray by Namikawa Sosuke. The scene is a bird perched on a flowering branch. The grayish background changes in tone from the top to bottom. The back is decorated with gilt wire stylized designs. The oval tray measures 11 5/8 inches by 9 1/4 inches. Signed on the front Seitei - Watanabe Shotei. Condition is excellent. Japanese mid 20th century cylindrical shaped bamboo flower basket by basket master, TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II. TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II, from the Osaka area, lived from 1910 to 1999. This basket is signed by the artist and comes with TOMOBAKO, its original wooden artist signed storage box. Also comes with original TOMOGIRE or artist stamped wrapping cloth and OTOSHI, or bamboo water holder. The basket measures 14" tall, 6 7/8" wide and 6 1/2" deep.

An 18th-early 19th century Literati landscape featuring a scholars gathering in a forest of pines on one side, a pair of boats pulling up to a hermitage on the other. A pair of Wooden doors dating from the later Meiji to Taisho period of fine clear grained panels hand-painted with butterflies, birds, and floral dials in brilliant color by Maruyama Oyo in red lacquered wooden frames retaining the original brass hardware. They are made for an opening 141.5 x 180 cm (55-3/4 x 71 inches). They are in overall fine condition.
