Antique Japanese iron sake server or sakatsugi. The body contains an image of a turtle, a symbol of longevity and used in festive and auspicious occasions. Next to the turtle, although hard to see, is a signature which reads Tosa no Kami Mitsusada, who was a painter from the Tosa School (1738-1806). The image on the sakatsugi is possibly based on a painting by the artist and was incorporated into the design...

It is 3.3 inches (8.5 cm) tall by 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) wide. The netsuke is 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) tall.

It is in good condition with no repairs except peeling of lacquer, a gold leaf is loose, chips, and hairline cracks at the netsuke (as seen in the photos).

A set of Nesting Shino Sake Cups with Dice. They are stamped on the base, and come in three sizes, the accompanying dice imprinted with the various sizes on each side, so a roll of the dice decides your fate in the drinking game.
