Medium: Japanese woodblock print. Condition. Excellent. Uncirculated. Overlapping forms create an urban sprawl on the surface of this cubist-gourd by Kiyomizu Rokubei VIII (Masahiro). It is 5-1/4 inches (13.5 cm) square, 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) tall and in excellent condition. Although the first heads of the Kiyomizu family concentrated on traditional, popular objects and designs, Rokubei VII and VIII "took a radical turn" to produce abstract, geometric three-dimensional pieces which are either purely decorative, or combine function with distinctive, unexpected form...

It is stamped Japan on base so it was probably made sometime between 1920& 1930. The enamel colors and style look like a few Ando pieces we have had from this time period. $450.00 This is a mystery piece. Purchased by my mother about 30 years ago in japan. The piece is definitely quite old but the origin is not clearly Japanese, Chinese or Southeast Asian. l welcome any opinions. The glaze and patina is very attractive brown with a creme splash interior, I would venture a guess of age 18th/17th century.
