Overlapping forms create an urban sprawl on the surface of this cubist-gourd by Kiyomizu Rokubei VIII (Masahiro). It is 5-1/4 inches (13.5 cm) square, 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) tall and in excellent condition. Although the first heads of the Kiyomizu family concentrated on traditional, popular objects and designs, Rokubei VII and VIII "took a radical turn" to produce abstract, geometric three-dimensional pieces which are either purely decorative, or combine function with distinctive, unexpected form...

A beautiful bronze paper weight in the form of a dog/lion. It is a very detailed casting in solid bronze with a deep brown patina. The shishi measures about 4" high x 6 3/4" long, it weighs 43 ounces, and it dates to the 19th Century. The condition is excellent with some casting flaws. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Splendid Aka Raku Chawan dating from the later Edo Period (1603-1868). It has a wonderful crazing and a very rare form. Great condition with no cracks or repairs.

The chawan comes with a good wooden box.

Tea bowl of irregular shape. Deep dark brown clay covered in a greenish-gray glaze that leaves the bottom part of the bowl uncovered. The inside in the same tone with a brown patch. The rim covered with a brownish-green glaze. One looped line decoration in brownish green on the outside. A small patch at the inside of the bowl left uncovered...

A splendid stoneware dish by Sakuma Totaro (1900-1976) with the original signed and inscribed storage box, tomobako. Showa period, mid 20th century.

A substantial dish with deep brown iron glaze leaves on a jade green copper glaze. The back of the dish is undecorated and covered in a transparent ash glaze...

A tall bottle of hand blown clear glass wth a swirling strip of red by Nakashima Yasushi. The top is ground to a smooth finish, and it wears a a dimpled, heavy glass, cap with matching red swirl caps. Signed on the base Y Nakashima. It is 15 inches (38.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Nakashima Yasushi (1938-2017) was born in Hyogo prefecture and graduated the Kyoto Municipal University of Art in 1962...

Japanese Satsuma ware obidome (obi broach) made of ceramic and decorated with orange blossoming chrysanthemums. This three dimensional obidome is painted with gold details and has a slot in the back through which an obijime cord can be strung. With signed kiri wood tomobako.

Taisho Period (circa 1920)

Furoshiki (wrapping cloth) with bold and nice family crest design which are katazome (stencil-resist-dye). It is made of hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dyed. In good condition but has two mending patches and a few breaks. 19th century. 130cm x 126cm

A wood sculpture of a reclining young, naked woman seated on a oblong base. Carved in naturalistic style from a single piece of wood. Light, brownish color. Good expression and fine details. Signed: Shoji. Japan: Showa period, 1950s. L 33,5 cm, H 20,5 cm. Condition: Excellent.

Antique Japanese wood ranma (transom) with a black lacquer frame. The center panel is carved with a crane flying through pine trees. The crane, as well as the pine, are both symbols of a long and healthy life.

Rare Japanese silk jacket with a woven scene from an old Edo period tale about a trickster tanooki (also known as raccoon dog or tanuki) and a nobleman or samurai who is holding a pipe. In excellent condition, the black silk is satin silk, fine and smooth.

Japanese pair of round fish plates. The raised details of the fish is painted in blue glaze. Along the edges, an impressed pattern makes up the fish's dorsal and pectoral fins. On the bottom, the maker's mark is a tiny blue floret.

Taisho Period (early 20th century)

Circa 1910, Japanese Satsuma covered jar raised on three legs with a foo lion finial on the lid. Heavily gilded on a blue ground fading to green on the bottom. Flower and butterfly motif. Signed on bottom. Measures 12.5 inches high.

This is a beautiful small cloisonne vase decorated with with 7 butterflies of different sizes. Stands 4 3/4 inches tall. It is stamped Japan on base so it was probably made sometime between 1920& 1930. The enamel colors and style look like a few Ando pieces we have had from this time period. Condition is excellent with just wear to the rim coatings

Silk kimono worn on the stage of Kyogen which is a traditional short comedic drama. It is often performed with Noh drama. The kimono is made of thin plain silk with katazome lattice pattern and brush dye for green parts. The lining is pongee silk. The dye is all vegetable and sumi. Kataginu and hakama (kamishimo) is worn over this kimono on the Kyogen stage. In excellent condition. 20th century. 142cm x 134cm

Very sweet little circular cloisonne box with a pale yellow ground. The foot is exposed copper. The interior of both the lid and base is a mottled dark green. Some expected pitting to the enamel. In excellent antique condition, no dents, no chips, no cracks, it measures 2.25 inches in diameter. Circa 1800

This is a mystery piece. Purchased by my mother about 30 years ago in japan. The piece is definitely quite old but the origin is not clearly Japanese, Chinese or Southeast Asian. l welcome any opinions. The glaze and patina is very attractive brown with a creme splash interior, I would venture a guess of age 18th/17th century.
