A Japanese Arita lobed dish decorated with a dragon descending from clouds, grasping the pearl of wisdom. The back with a fuku mark. The dish dates from 1750~1790. A similar design to Chinese examples of the Yongzheng period.

Approximately 14 cm diameter. Perfect condition. A little kiln dross in the cloud.

A mukuzuke or serving dish of raised barbed lotus form with a moulded ribbed cavetto decorated in underglaze blue with gilt outlined enamels dating to circa 1740-70. The unusual form of the dish follows Chinese “Ko Sometsuke” precedents of the first half of the 17th century; see “The Peony Pavillion” lot 220 for a Chinese example of the Chongzhen period, where this particular form is considered to have been especially made for the kaiseki meal accompanying the Tea ceremony. A bowl or cup of unusual Klapmuts form with an angled everted rim decorated in under-glaze blue with Auntumn grasses, akikusa. Shards of identical cups have been excavated from the Okawachi kiln site and dated to the late Edo period and the first half of the Nineteenth century.
