Moriwaki Masatada has been creating potteries mainly the wares for tea ceremony at Seto the most famous producing area in Japan. He was born in 1948, and apprenticed to Shuntei the second at 19 years old. And then he has become one of the leaders in Seto pottery scene. Very nice Satsuma water jar often used in Japanese tea ceremony. Made in a drum form, the body features boys at play. Being quite versatile, it would make a wonderful biscuit or candy jar from which to offer guests a treat. In excellent condition, it measures 5.5 inches high.

An enchanting tea bowl with painted plum blossoms. The blossoms appears to be of the "un-ryu" species which translates as "flying dragon" in English. Grounded and weighty in construction, the innocent and playful drawings on the outer surface of this tea bowl make for a well-balanced composition.

In excellent condition, this piece measure 4.7 inches in diameter (12 cm) and stands 4 inches tall (10 cm). It features a signature in the clay of the pedestal (unknown potter)...

Ceramic "tenmoku" bowl of classical shape with thick rim and small base. Fine glazing of "hare fur" type, part of which has run down gracefully to the base. An old accident at a small area on the rim has been restored (see last two photos). China, Song Dynasty period. Height: 4,6 cm. Diameter: 10,7 cm.

Stoneware water jar or mizusashi as used in the tea ceremony with round bottom developing into a diamond shaped edge. Greyish smooth stoneware, decorated with horizontal grooves, covered with brown iridescent glaze on the outside and with a mottled greenish-yellow glaze on the inside, dripping over the outside edge and down. Black lacquered, diamond-shaped coved. Takatori style, Japan, early Showa era, circa 1930-1950s.

Very sophisticated Shino chawan by Japanese artist Ko Ji Nakamura. It has a rarely seen Shino glaze of light pink, grey and blue color, designed with plum blossoms. A really aesthetic bowl which fits the palm of the hands perfectly.

This chawan was made around 30 years ago and is well balanced. The seal of his potter name (Kozan-gama) is stamped on the bottom.

It is is perfect condition. No chips or cracks.

This expertly crafted Chawan was made by great contemporary artist Kobayashi Takeharu, born in 1944. It is an elegant example of the beauty of Shino ware, a four hundred year old tradition that has produced some of the most spectacular tea ceremony vessels.
