Antique Japanese Black Raku Ware Tea Bowl (Chawan) with for Tea Ceremony made during Meiji period (1868-1912)
Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century. The seal of the potter is stamped at the bottom. Size Diameter 11cm Height 7.5cm Weight 495g Condition Overall good, no cracks, no chips. Old storage box is supplied.

Sold. Thank you. A Karatsu ware tea bowl with gold mending. It has simple paintings which is called E-karatsu. Karatsu ware has been produced in the east part of Saga Pref. and the north part of Nagasaki Pref. in Kyushu since late 16th century. Age is not clear. It is possible that is made by modern artist. The Shoraku line began when the grandfather of the current potter established a kiln near the famous Kiyomizu temple, nestled at the foot of the eastern mountains in Kyoto. In 1945, the kiln was moved to Kameoka near the Yada shrine where it remains today.
