Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. A pair of red lacquered sake cups with chrysanthemum and pampas grass (respectively) on ornate stands decorated with golden landscapes enclosed in the original compartmentalized wooden box titled Sansui Maki-e Hai-ki ittsui (One Set of Sake Stands with Lacquer Landscapes). They are 4-1/4 inches (11 cm) square at the feet, and in excellent condition dating from the early 20th century.

A serving tray made of Kozai (Jap. old material) from Todaiji Temple in Nara branded with the marks of the 7 great temples of Nara and enclosed in the original wooden storage box dated 1925. It is turned from keyaki, a hardwood in the elm family famed for durability and beautiful wood grain. On the bottom of the tray is a seal which reads Daibutsuden Kozai (Old Material from the great Hall). The tray is 33 cm (13 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

Large Japanese Meiji period rounded square form black lacquered wood deep tray decorated in gold and polychrome accents with three birds among flowers and bamboo above a stream at the bottom. The rim is gold. 14 3/4" square with a lip nearly 2 1/4" high. Late 19th to early 20th century. A beautifully turned bowl lacquered burnt orange-red over a black foot dating from the late 19th to early 20th century enclosed in an old kiri wood box titled Negoro-nuri Kashiki followed by a signature. The faintest brush strokes in perfect lines swirl around the outside, and cross the bowl inside. The bowl itself is also signed in red on the base. It is 18 cm (7 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.

An antique Japanese Hibachi with Maki-E gilt lacquer and inlay in a melon shape made of kiri wood. The gilt lacquer designs are of a bird in peonies and ivy trailing around the edge. Gilt nashiji flakes and inlay add depth to the nature scene. Interior has an old patina.
