Interesting and unusual in shape, two contiguous cylinders of different diameters, the lacquer decoration with marbled shades is rare. An Edo period incense burner of wood cut in a squash shape known as an Akoda-koro covered in black lacquer with designs of aogai-shell laid onto the surface under a solid silver dome-lid. It is 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter and enclosed in modern custom wooden storage box. There are losses to the raden design revealing the underlying tonoko on which it is laid.

A wine glass with design of undulating colored ribbons in colored lacquer, gold and mother of pearl designed by Okada Yuji at his Shiun studio enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is roughly 8 cm (3-1/4 inches) diameter, 21 cm (8-1/4 inches) tall and in perfect condition.

A beautiful 2 Stage lacquered container covered in black lacquer decorated with flowering vines. The domed lid opens to reveal a circular tray removable to open a deep container. It is 8.5 cm (3-1/4 inches) diameter, 11 cm (4-1/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

A rare small sized circular Hokai container with chased brass hardware decorated on the lid with a six layer 16 petal chrysanthemum, the floral symbol of the Imperial Household. The container is made of wood covered with black lacquer decorated with gold powder hira-maki-e with brass hardware. Hokai were a standard accoutrements to any household of means, however this size is quite rare. It is not the miniature version from a doll set...

Very refined Japanese lacquered wood tray representing a branch of plum blossoms and bamboo leaves in gold and brown lacquer. The decor is placed on a brown base in the style of a basket weave. The back is in black lacquer (ro-iro). The protective wooden box is original and signed on the lid and inside. Dimensions: 10 x 18 cm. Period: Meiji (1868-1912) 19/20th century.

Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. A pair of red lacquered sake cups with chrysanthemum and pampas grass (respectively) on ornate stands decorated with golden landscapes enclosed in the original compartmentalized wooden box titled Sansui Maki-e Hai-ki ittsui (One Set of Sake Stands with Lacquer Landscapes). They are 4-1/4 inches (11 cm) square at the feet, and in excellent condition dating from the early 20th century.

A serving tray made of Kozai (Jap. old material) from Todaiji Temple in Nara branded with the marks of the 7 great temples of Nara and enclosed in the original wooden storage box dated 1925. It is turned from keyaki, a hardwood in the elm family famed for durability and beautiful wood grain. Large Japanese Meiji period rounded square form black lacquered wood deep tray decorated in gold and polychrome accents with three birds among flowers and bamboo above a stream at the bottom. The rim is gold. 14 3/4" square with a lip nearly 2 1/4" high. Late 19th to early 20th century.
