Zentner Collection
SOLD A large Kansai area issho tansu made from keyaki and sugi woods. Copper handles are used on the sliding door panels and a special cabinet with a lock is set on the bottom area of the chest. Tansu such as these were often placed in the private quarters of the home and clothes, family documents, and important objects were placed inside. Age: Meiji Period Size: Length 45.75" Width 18.25" Height 60"

$1,800.00 Japanese antique small small tansu with locking bar (bo). The bar has wrought iron fittings with a working locking mechanism. The bar functioned to keep the drawers closed during transportation. The wood is finished with a lacquered surface. Edo period, circa 1860. It measures 26.75" high, 25" wide, 14.5" deep .

SOLD Antique Japanese Gyosho Bako, Edo Period, mid 19th century. It has two moving locks on the exterior. The interior has one large drawer and seven smaller drawers. It measures 13" wide 18" deep 31.5" tall.

$3,500.00 A four drawer lacquered gyosho tansu. The tansu has metal work advertising the medicine the peddling merchant was selling. The medicine, soge-nuki kusuri (written on the box) aids in removing splinters. The medicine was made by Shiota Nadaya Juzaemon who was based near Takabashi, Shinbashi in Osaka city. Age: Late Edo to Meiji Period Size: Length 13.25" Width 17.75" Height 30"

Villains and travelers, Goblins and Priests, Various tales play out in 3 dimensions around the trunk and among the leafy branches of a massive tree forming the core and backdrop of this amazing 19th century altar bell stand. The piece is 6 inches (15.5 cm) tall, the same diameter. It comes enclosed in an old wooden box. This matches the Maezukue Altar table previously listed. One of the most elaborate I have ever seen.
