SOLD Fantastic Japanese choba tansu, or merchant's chest, made from keyaki wood with a gorgeous original semi-matte red finish. It has many drawers for storage with simple iron hardware of a squared form (besides the handles, whose shape is called 'warabite') and two sets of sliding door panels with a middle lock. Meiji period circa 1900

The upper portion of the tansu has two cabinet doors on either side of a compartment with two sliding panels. In the middle section of the chest are six shelves of different sizes which are staggered at different intervals for display...

Made all of sugi (crytomeria) wood with deep reddish brown lacquer finish on the drawer panels and black lacquer top, sides and front frame. Iron work includes two elaborate lock plates, raised seed pods in corners, and moko shaped drawer pulls. From northern Japan, possibly Nigata area.

SOLD Antique Japanese zenibako also know as a money safe box. Original deep lacquer finish, hinged lid with Iron handle and money slot beside it. Money was dropped inside and is retrieved by opening the drawer directly below it. Two other drawers free of locks may be used for storage as well.

The condition is as used condition directly imported from Japan, no restoration work was done on this small Cha Tansu.

SOLD An antique Japanese 2 section tall Isho Tansu (Kimono Chest) made from Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Handmade iron fittings and sliding door handles that feature embossed Paulownia and Chrysanthemums. Side handles were used for transporting this chest.
