Antique Japanese small tansu with 5 drawers of various sizes. Made of kiri (paulownia) wood and still in it's original condition. Iron hardware includes hirute shaped drawer pulls and each drawer has a lock plate. The sides of the chest have a deep reddish lacquer finish. The deep patination is from hundreds of years of careful use.

A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's box, with iron rings and a smoothed carved indentation on one side so that it may be carried comfortably on a person's back. It has an interesting signature branded on its front door, and its side has the branded mark of a trio of leaves.
