A large pair of decorative vases painted with a pattern of stylised peonies in underglaze blue and gilt set against an iron red ground. The vases are of compressed mallet shaped form with wasted body and flared mouth, a form used at the Fukugawa factory from the late 19th century onwards. Probably early 20th century in date. Large peach-shaped bowl decorated on in- and outside with a bold Rinpa design of flowering red, white and blue camellias and leaves. Over a cream-colored coarse stoneware a thin layer of cream-colored slip has been applied, on top of which overglaze blue, black, green, red, white enamels and gold.

A very large porcelain basin decorated with gold and red fish among green, gold and red flora by Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Gosu-Aka-e Sakana no Zu Hira Bachi. Inside the box bears the Teishitsu Gigein seal, followed by an annotation denoting the artist age at 75 years old. After a long verse which also appears to be by the hand of Kozan it is dated 5th day, 5th month of Taisho 6 (1917). It is 38 cm (15 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

Very fine large Meiji Era Japanese porcelain bowl with a delicately painted floral motif accented with gold gilt highlights. The side of the bowl features cranes in various flying poses. There is an old staple and gold repair at the rim. Looking into the bowl it is not visible unless you are seriously looking for it. See last 2 photos. Bowl rings nicely. This hand pinched Guinomi by Shigemori Yoko has been decorated with rough large polkadots in black applied directly to the still wet clay creating a dry, porous surface and unique texture. The vessel is 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) diameter, 5 cm (2 inches) deep and in excellent condition. It comes enclosed in a wooden box titled simply Guinomi annotated by her nephew.
