SOLD Chinese antique tomb pottery figure of a portly court lady, Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), 14.25"H with traces of original red and black pigments on sleeves and crevices of body. Minor repairs to hair and neck. Oxford TL Test results consistent with 9th century dating. Fat lady was depicting the famous concubine, Yang Gu Fei, her asymetric coiffure is Duo Maji, 'just off horse look' with disheveled hairdo...
Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery figure of a standing lady (often referred to as a “fat lady”), dressed in a long-sleeved, high-waisted, full-length robe. One boat-shaped shoe protrudes from the bottom of the robe. The sleeve of her gown covers her right hand while the left hand is exposed. Her hair is gathered in a double-topknot at the top of her head. Cold painted red pigment remains over the thin layer of white slip covering the red pottery...
Rarely encountered Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery figure of a court gentleman (often referred to as a “fat man”) wearing a scarf hat and dressed in a long, belted gown with one arm raised, his hand covered by his voluminous sleeve, and the other hand holding the belt. An acrylic stand is included. 14 1/4” high (excluding stand). Circa 7th to 8th century. Very good overall condition with nice detailing. From an Arizona collection. Purchased in Hong Kong in 1996.

Chinese Tang Dynasty Glazed Pottery Groom Figure (12")
This pottery figure was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a pale pinkish-coloured pottery that is relatively highly-fired. The body is coated in an attractive golden yellow / amber glaze that is very finely-crackled. In places the surface has acquired a silvery iridescence, a result of long burial in damp conditions... This high-fired sturdy dish with eight accompanying cups was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). The finely-crackled and thin pale straw-coloured glaze was used sparingly, covering only the inner and outer edges of the dish, as well as the inner and upper outer surfaces of the cups. The glaze is so thin that in places on both the dish and the cups it has degraded and flaked from the surface... A beautiful Chinese Tang dynasty glass bowl. Dia. 10.6cm. Ht. 4.8cm. $8,000.00 Chinese Tang Dynasty Guardian, having dramatic features and detail, a magnificent terrecotta warrior. Known as mingqui in Chinese, these figures were of servants, soldiers (in male tombs) and attendants such as dancers and musicians, with many no doubt representing courtesans. In burials of people of high rank there may be soldiers and officials as well.

Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) Lushan kiln tripod stoneware coupe with two thin upright handles covered entirely in a dark brown speckled glaze apart from the lower part of the unglazed feet. A large phosphatic splash is on both the front and back. Small bosses are spread around the circumference of the widest part of the body to imitate bronze examples. 6 1/4” diameter by 4 1/4" high...

SOLD An authentic marble stele fragment depicting an Apsara, measuring 4-3/4" in height by 3-1/2" in width. The carving is very well done and the details are crisp. The surface retains its original patina. A very fine example, mounted on a custom stand (the base of the sculpture has been drilled with a hole to accommodate the shaft).
