Rare Large Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Buddhist Zodiac Jar

This very rare pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province.

It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been coated in a green glaze that is very thin in places.

Around the waist of the jar have been applied twelve mouldings, the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac...

Fragment of a relief carved in marble to represent a flying "apsara". China, Tang dynasty, 10th century. Height: 12.5 cm. The piece is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Good condition. Provenance: French auction sale 1992.

Tall Chinese late Qing dynasty Guangxu period baluster form floor vase decorated in underglaze blue against a faintly celadon-gray tinted white background with a phoenix bird standing on rockery among flowers. Two applied handles are at the neck. 22 3/8" high. Late 19th century. Very good overall condition. There are fine old hairline cracks to the base. Cast bronze tripod, representing three dragon heads that hold their feet in their mouths. In the center a small container. It could be a censer. Maybe a candlestick. The style of the dragons with these long ears and the unicorn seem to us from the Yuan period or the beginning of the Ming. The excellent multi-centenary old patina would confirm such an ancient time. I don't think anything is missing in the center, because there are no signs of wear. Good condition.Large:21cm
