Lion is a special animal to Chinese people. The lion is regarded as the king in the animal world, so it is represented power and prestige. The ball played by the male lion symbolized the unity of the empire.

It is believed that lion can protect human from evil spirits. That is why Chinese always place lions at the gates of imperial palaces, official residences, temples and tombs.

A finely carved boxwood image of a standing Luohan (Arhat), one of Buddha’s disciples. The figure is shown turned slight to one side while holding a wish-fulfilling scepter (ruyi) in the crook of his right arm. The carving is coated in a deep, transparent reddish lacquer. Qing, 18th cent. H 18.5 cm. With fitted, old Japanese storage box. Condition: Excellent with only one minor age crack caused by the drying wood.

A rare and very nice QING DYNASTY BRONZE ELEPHANT WITH CEREMONIAL VESSEL, elaborate trimmings, saddle and typical Chinese stylized eyes. Overall very good condition, bottom of saddle on one side has an inconsequential very small piece missing. Naturally formed dark patina. Size: L. 9.5 cm. x H. 9 cm. x W. 3.2 cm. Weight: 342 gr. A serene QING DYNASTY HAND CARVED GENUINE TURQUOISE DEITY WITH A BABY, ca. 1850 She is draped in long robes fluttering at the sleeves, her hair in a fine chignon. Chinese ceramic Buddha, circa 1900-1930 (Qing – Early Republic). The iconography is quite unusual there is a seated Buddha image on the chest, standing Buddha image on the back, and another image of the Buddha in Parinirvana reclining pose. Overall a very intriguing piece, possibly meant for export to another Asian nation. Excellent original condition- no cracks, chips or frits. H: 15cm/6in and W: 9cm/3.5in.

A very rare and unusual root brush pot that is highly prized by the Qing Scholars. This is a very special type of root know in Chinese as "JinJinan" The pot has all the natural openings from the root. Age: Qing, early 18 century. Size: H. 29.3 cm. Diameter at the base. 19cm. Condition: No repairs to the root. An old repair on one leg of the base. One leg has been replaced. See photos.

A rare wooden Buddha in a seated position on a lotus pedestal. The face is serenely contemplative and the robe is carved to show the gathered folds. Wooden Buddhas from this period are very difficult to find. This Buddha has a natural, calming presence.

Period: Yuan/Ming or earlier

Size: Height = 31 cm., Width at base = 18 cm.

Condition: The wood has shrinkage and cracks from age. The right ear and fingers of the left hand are missing...
