$975 Charming gilt bronze figure of ball player displayed on a wooden pedestal. Figure is balancing ball on one foot with arms by sides. Ball player is wearing traditional cloth garb for game playing, with a unique tattooing on upper legs. Early 20th century.
Dimensions: 7.75" Tall, 3.5" Wide at Base
Seated on a lotus throne, guarded by two attendants. On the back of the stand there is an inscription : This is a statue (or carving) or Kwanyin, for Mr. Wang (??)'s wife, Mrs. Chao (??).
2nd day, 4th month Daoguang 10th year (1830 A.D.).
Condition: usual age wear, loss of gilding, the ribbon from the crown at the right side is missing. H. 23 cm.

The two outer clappers are rounded at the tops while the center piece is flat on both sides.The sound of the wooden clappers sets the rhythm of the music as well as some of the actions of the performers. This buddha has delicate features and a beautiful expression with high arching brows over half lidded eyes and a slight smile.
