A large rosewood, huanghuali brush pot, bitong of simple cylindrical form with thick walls and the base with an inset plug. The wood grain has particularly nice patterns, with a few 'ghost eyes', and a wonderful deep honey-brown patina. H 16 x 16,4 cm Diameter Late Ming/ early Qing Dynasty. Condition: good with a couple of chips at the lower part and thin hairline at the bottom.

Song Dynasty Jun ware brush shaper or brushwasher. This was originally the base of flower vase which was later reworked into a scholar’s object. The brown clay indicates this was fired in Henan and in my opinion is representative of the kind that was acquired for the Imperial Qing collection rather then the more typical bowls and saucers. The top surface has more discoloration and minor scratches which indicates, that the repurposing was done some time ago...

Large Chinese Qing dynasty naturalistic form wood scroll pot carved from a single piece of wood with human figures, a monkey holding the peach of immortality, and other creatures extending around the exterior. It was clearly not designed to hold water as there are openwork areas throughout. The top reveals two separate holders. DESCRIPTION: A large wooden scholar’s brush used to paint large calligraphy. Thick black bristles are gathered into a bulbous wood ferrule, turned from the same wood as the handle. The tip of the handle is pierced for hanging. A very nice old brush, good for display in large brush pots; 19th C., normal wear as would be expected. DIMENSIONS: 16” long (41 cm).
