Early 19c Chinese scholar’s carved rosewood double dragon brush rest. The dragons have wonderful facial features with turned up snouts. There is a round knob on the top between the two facing dragons to turn it easily. The bodies, feet and curling tails are wonderful. DESCRIPTION: A large and masterfully carved Chinese shou shan stone (soapstone) seal in tall rectangular form, the knob carved with a crouching dragon having both wings tucked back covering its sides, and whose mouth is poised to grasp the sacred pearl. On each flat surface of the base are engraved inscriptions and characters among idyllic scenes of rivers with boats, hills, houses and pavilions. The bottom seal characters leave a positive (red) impression...

I have seen many antique paintings of mountain tigers, but none with this level of realism. This Chinese painting dates late Qing, 1910-1912, possibly early Republic, pre 1920. The seal indicates that it came from a shop in Southern China. It measures approximately 17" wide x 48" high.

Oversized Chinese copperplate etching of two large white birds with prominent beaks (possibly two albatrosses) by Wu Wulong (b. 1956) titled "Under the Moon." The print is pencil-signed and titled in Chinese, dated 1986, and numbered 18/20 in the large bottom margin. Paper: 24" x 19 1/2" (image: 17 1/4" x 17 1/8"). Very good overall condition. There are a few pin holes in the upper margin. Some faint spotting and soiling is visible on the white birds, in the margins, and on the back...

A very unusual piece that I've never seen before. Possibly this lamp was made as an advertising piece for a lamp shop, or maybe it was used in an opium kit. The foot has decorations in reliëf, covered with enamels. H. 25 cm (10 inch), D. 21 cm (8,5 inch). Condition: two minor chips to the enamel. The glass seems to be original.
