The letter is addressed to a Mr. Fu Wen and discusses about an exhibition and several works of art that Xu Beihong was expressing his congratulations to the person he was writing to. Chinese hand scroll portraying a hunting scene attributed to, Jin Tingbiao (~1767). Four hunters with four horses are gathered in this scene either preparing a hunting party or finishing one. Views of hunting, known as shoulie wenwutu were first seen from the Yuan dynasty and succeeding dynasties continued to paint various renditions. Comes in a beautifully carved box. A Chinese couplet scroll in calligraphy excerpting from a work composed by the noted literati scholar, Su Dongpo from the Song Dynasty. Work contains the signature and seal of Zheng Xiaoxu (1860-1938).The two line couplet expresses how as there are different ways to point out the errors in an embroidered robe, or a crane hesitating to fly has yet to mature into an immortal. A Chinese landscape painting done on a gold paper base done in the style of Zhang Da Qian. The work contains a signature and seal of Zhang Da Qian's noted disciple Sun Yunsheng (1918-2000). Zhang Da Qian established a style influenced from traditional Chinese landscape paintings combined with Song Dynasty style ink wash landscapes. Work is dated in June of 1975. It was impossible to identify the artist, but it is obvious that he was a great painter of his time...

The woman is wearing elegant garments that billow in the wind as she stands atop a phoenix whose wings are flapping as they ascend through the clouds together, the sun glowing behind them. The image measures 8" wide. The book measures 15.25" tall 13" wide .5" deep.

A circular shaped album leaf painting done on silk of a peony. The work contains an inscription, signature and seal of an artist named Xu Zhiping. The work and style appear similar to examples seen in China during the mid to late Qing Dynasty. Age: 19th century Size: Length 23.5" Width 14.2"

The writing expresses the view of the fan painting where the scholar is listening to the wind among the bamboo groves in the evening, signed "Ke Mou"?. Title "Listening to the Scholartree". Age: Qing Dynasty 18th/19th century. Size: Length 22" Width 10.2"

An interesting square porcelain brush pot with a long inscription of the Chu Shi Biao composed by the 3rd century strategist, Zhuge Liang. The inscription makes the argument that the state of Shu Han must fight against Cao Wei. The calligrapher at the end signs and dates the piece: The 23rd Year of Kangxi, (inscribed by) Wen Fang. Wonderful Chinese antique scholar rock, horizontal formation with cave like holes worn in between layers, top layer is a flat plateau, on custom wooden base that has been carved to fit the stone exactly, early 20th century. Total size with stand: 8" high x 17 1/4" long x 7" deep.

Beautifully carved Green Spinach Jade Chinese Boulder with landscape scenes of mountainous village with go players and bamboo groves, peaked rooflines and finely written calligraphy poetry on two surfaces on an interesting wooden reticulated branch base. The view is referring to the seven sages of the bamboo grove, where noted scholars gathered in doing literati activities. Size: 8.25" height (11" w/stand), 11.25" length (13.5" w/stand)

A refined Chinese Jade water coup. The water coup is carved in the form of a banana leaf, which is a popular motif in Chinese literati culture.
