A Chinese box of grey celadon jade and rectangular shape with rounded corners. The body is very thinly carved , resembling the Mughal manner and the cover is delicately incised with a bird in a tree. Elegant in its simplicity and precision, it typifies the 18 C. lapidary art on small jade objects. Age: 18 C. size: 2 7/10 inches x 1 7/10 inches x 3/5 inch high when closed. ( 6.6 cm x 4.5 cm x 1.5cm high when closed.

A finely carved Chinese agate in the form of a popular motif often seen in Tibet which is the windhorse. The use of Tibetan motifs in Chinese arts began during the Ming dynasty with patronage of the Tibetan high lamas and continued onwards into the Qing Dynasty. The windhorse is carrying a pecha or sutra text, a signature motif often found on windhorses. The stylized ribbons and the waves are done in the Chinese style. Antique Chinese stone seal with carving of horse and small animal together. The front bears a six character inscription. It measures 5.5" tall base 2" by 2".

A very nice Chinese hardwood lid for a jar. Wood unknown, but is the color of a dark rosewood. In excellent condition, the lid measures 3.25" diameter by 2.25" including finial. Fits an opening 1 5/8th inches or larger".

We have a matching 2 inch high stand with the inner diameter being 3 inches for $35.

Chinese Qing dynasty ornately carved rootwood fly-whisk handle. Fly-whisks were carried by Buddhist priests to wave away flies which, according to Buddhist tenets, they could not kill. The fly-whisk is also a symbol of leadership. 19th century. 10 3/8" long. Very good overall condition with a nice patina. There are a few thin cracks visible in the enlargements. This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s...
