There is a very similarly styled figure currently on display on the ground floor of the Victoria and Albert Museum (London): No. IS.127-1964 (Given by Havelock Pinkey). Condition: excellent - no damages or losses and no repairs or restoration. Only traces of the original gilding remain...

A mask carved from a mushroom, Eastern part of Nepal, Raj people. This type of masks hang in the houses to ward of evil and danger. They are called "fog-eaters" as they are credited with the power to keep fog away from the mountains; fog being a danger when one had to go out and travel. The use of this mask fits in a shamanistic type of belief that is still quite strong among the Raj. Dim.: WxDxH 28x14x22cm. In good condition with a smokey patina.

A round, convex shield with four central bosses. Decorated with raised design of tendrils, embellished with black and red enamel, and some tin plated areas. Reverse with four attaching bronze rings and a velvet pad. Compare with a similar shield in the Royal Ontario museum. Condition: few losses to enamel and wear to tinned areas, reverse with some residue of solder. Dimension: diameter: 28 cm.
