Finely woven Iban women’s kain skirt, circa 1940 with “eye of the green pigeon” and bamboo pattern, from the Kapit area, Sarawak, Malaysia. Fine and tight weaves like this, indicate that owner was from a high status. There is one repair noted in enlargements. An exquisite lidded ginger jar wrapped with a writhing dragon by Ibata Katsue. The artist mark is placed in a raised cartouche, like an old wax seal, on the side, and the dragons seem to reach for it like it was the pearl of Buddhist wisdom. Silver ray-skin texture covers this fabulous Katakuchi sake pot by Ichikawa Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. OMG a chilled Daiginjo served with this would have to taste like a million bucks!
