Fine Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse (206 BC - AD 8)

This fine pottery model of a horse was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a fairly high-fired fine-grained grey pottery and has been "cold painted" in a pale pink pigment with details on top in red and black pigments. The horse stands upright and alert.

Suzuribako - Important model of urushi lacquer writing case from Japan, offering a rich decoration of a Kabuto and a sand on the top of the lid, on a hirameji lacquer background. Gold and silver lacquer with rare finesse of decoration. The interior offers a particularly remarkable scene, of two deer in autumn foliage. Takamaki-e and hiramaki-e. Dimensions: 4.6 cm x 21.3 cm x 23 cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) early 18th century.

Rare and pretty Inro opening with four compartments and a lid in urushi lacquer with a black background decorated in hiramaki-e with gold lacquer, mitsuda, kirigane and mother-of-pearl inlays, of a traditional cottage above which a bird flies; on the other side, a set of objects including a large basket, branches and a cup. This is a pottery vessel originating in the Han Dynasty of ancient China (206 BCE to 220 CE). Vessels such as these were often used as wine containers. This piece his beautifully sculpted and has great colors. There is a repair two the foot of the jar. There are also small chips and abrasions throughout and possible areas of professional restoration. It measures 29 cm in heights and 32 cm in width.

Chinese antique pair of porcelain tiles. Painted in enamel with scenes of snowy landscapes. One panel with a pavilion in the snow, a figure on a path, tall mountains covered with snow and a persimmon tree bare of leaves and laden with fruit. The other panel shows a red pavilion in the mountains, snow on pine and red maple trees and two figures climbing a stepped path. Both tiles are framed in dark hardwood.

A refined form covered in a blast of liquid ash by Kojima Kenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Mimitsuki Hanaire. This has a wide flange flaring from the mouth, with two square handles on the square neck which comes off a square pedestal of the bulbous body of the vase. Very unusual design, and quite compelling. Liquid Green ash seems to overflow the rim of this heavily potted Iga vase by Iga star Kojima Kenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Mimitsuki Hanaire. The term Mimi refers to ears, usually a pair of lug like handles opposing each other on a pot. Here the ears have been elongated, more like lobes of some ancient sage, and become one with the wide flange of the base. A trumpeting fluted form covered in igneous blasted ash by Iga legend Kojima Kenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Ruiza Hanaire. Ruiza is the name of these small circular studs which decorate the vase between the flutes near the rim. It seems to dance on the table, the form bent as if in a twirl. This vessel, very organic in formation, is 25 cm (10 inches) tall, roughly 15 cm (6 inches) diameter at the top, and is in excellent condition.
