Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Pottery Zodiac Jar

This interesting pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province. It is made from a relatively highly-fired grey pottery. The reddish-brown surface colour is from the iron-rich burial soil.

Dimensions: 15 1/2" Long by 15" High by 8 1/2" Wide

First edition Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled in kanji and English "Cherry Blossoms by the Gate" and dated in the left margin 1951. The artist's red seal is at the lower right with the pencil-signature below. Paper: 15 3/8" x 10 1/4" (image: 14 1/2" x 9 1/2"). Very good overall condition with slight waviness to the paper.

This is a Japanese antique textile of tsuzure silk fukusa traditional and very auspicious design. This is a very bold and elegant pattern of flying cranes and waves. It is a hand-dyed silk of Fukusa tsuzure woven fabric. There is a slight stain, but it is hardly noticeable. There is no damage. They are out of the way and are in very good condition overall. Asa (hemp or ramie) baby boy's ceremonial kimono, whose wefts and warps are hand plied. It is worn by a newborn baby about one month later of the birth, on the occasion of "Omiya-mairi" that is the first visit to the local shrine wishing for the healthy growth.
