A Korean lacquered box used to hold the ink stone and writing implements that were used during the Joseon Dynasty. Such a box was made by and for the common man or farmer and is a good example of Korean Folk Art. The box's lid fits over an inner tray where the ink stone and water dropper were kept. Korean Glazed Porcelain Bowl - Joseon Dynasty

This heavily-potted bowl was made during the latter part of the Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (1392 - 1910), probably the 18th or 19th century. It is delightfully "coarse" in its potting and coated in a cream/honey coloured glaze, the thickness of which varies. Around the centre inner surface is a ring of twelve kiln spacer scars from where another vessel was fired inside this bowl, also minor signs of wear from use...

The fine, little iron bearing clay has been mixed with sand (suna gohon) and thrown into an ido shape widening towards the rim.

The light body is covered with a clear, little greyish ash glaze, reacting with the iron oxide in the body to develop the pink spots typical for that kind of Gohon bowls...

Here we present a real fine example of Korean art: smaller rounded wan-shaped bowl with high foot of the bamboo node style - the dark, fine clay with some enclosures is expertly thrown. The chawan was decorated with a white engobe in brushstrokes with a straw brush (hakeme) before the whole bowl was covered with an ash glaze. No chips or cracks. Great antique condition.

We like to present you this Korean Hori Mishima tea bowl for the Japanese Tea ceremony, made in the late 16th/early 17th century.

It is a low wan shaped tea bowl. Its expertly thrown body with its lower part was trimmed with a potters knife and shaped into the typical Korean bamboo node foot, creating a chirimen (crepe de chine) effect at the bottom. A Korean soapstone box that has a square section carved out for the ink pad plus space to store soapstone seals. The box is cut out of one block of red soapstone measuring about 4 3/4"w x 3 5/8"d x 3"h. The red block is marbled with white and gray grains and spots.
