There have been decorative textiles sewn into squares or rectangular shapes since the Edo period in Japan. The small squares are made for tea ceremonies; the medium to larger sized ones (called fukusa) are used to cover seasonal and ceremonial gifts. This old Chinese panel was acquired in Japan mixing into our fukusa collection.

The features of this album are nothing less than remarkable, hand made paper with the paintings hand painted on very fine silk. The story is written in both Chinese and English, the typeface is the much older type dating to the 1930's. The album is handmade after the oriental fashion...

A marvelous three panel table screen done in a combination of Chinese hardwood and porcelain blanc de chine style panels. The central panel is an image of chrysanthemums in full bloom, the left panel is depicting bamboo and the right panel is a branch with dogwood-like flowers with a vine attached to its branches. Chinese colossal armchair in carved wood. Dimensions of an Imperial throne. Excellent quality wood, very hard with very fine grain, excessively heavy (an armchair weighs 80kg) nice grain. Intricate but elegant perfect cabinetmaker work. Sculptures in relief and cut with a total mastery of the tool. The drawings are precise, elegant and show no fault of chisel or taste. In addition, all the subjects treated have traditional Chinese meanings, longevity, fortune, luck, marital happiness, etc...

Chinese/Tibetan antique rectangular pillar rug with blue five-clawed dragon. The elongated middle section of the dragon exits the plane of the rug on either side. The dragon has five claws and is woven in shade of blue on a yellow ground with wisps of clouds and auspicious symbols. Details like it's teeth are woven in white and it's nose, tongue and flames are a coral color...

Pair of Tiele (Chinese Ironwood) Weiqi boxes, carved from solid wood. Weiqi was the forerunner of the Japanese board game of Go, and one of the Four Arts, that someone from the "gentleman class" were supposed to know. These boxes are used to put the stone pieces in. There is cyclical date which probably doesn’t go further back than 1972 therefore they could be 1984, 1996, 2008, 2000, 2012...

1970' Chinese Tixi Style Cinnabar Lacquer Panel with 19th Century Jade, Coral, Agate, Turquoise Carved Plaque Inlay

It is 24 inches (61 cm) in length by 27.2 inches (69 cm) wide. It is 8.7 Lb.

It has peelings, chips at the cinnabar, and surface wears and scratches. Some of the stone has inclusions and surface wears (as seen in the photos).

Fleece-lined and hand-made using the old fashioned traditional Chinese methods, only the mid 20th century fabric of the lining and ears identify these shoes as a later made at a later time period. They were probably made by a dotting grandmother and were well worn by a young child.

Chinese toggle of a lotus plant; natural material; lovely patina; early 19th century or earlier; good condition

Ancient Chinese tomb pottery figure of a horse and rider. Made of gray clay and painted with polychrome slip pigment. The figure is clothed in flowing robes and a hat that covers his ears. Facial details on both the figure and the horse are wonderfully well preserved.

Age: Tang Dynasty A.D. 618-906

Chinese tomb pottery of standing guardian. Wonderfully modeled with flaming headdress, dragon form shoulders and breastplate armor, standing in relaxed pose atop vanquished foe. Expressive with bold expression, red pigment over white slip, black pigment on hair and face. Tang Dynasty (618-917 AD) Size: 22 1/4"High x 7 1/4" Width x 4 3/4" Depth. Signs consistent with age, old encrustation, restoration. From estate of a NY collector.

Chinese tomb pottery shrine decorated with Sancai glaze in yellow and green with red slip painted details. The shrine is sculpted with lattice doors and filigree roof.
