Delicately carved and glazed white with brown, orange and gold over painting. Very subtle purple and green high lights on the tips of the lotus petals. Sits on a hardwood stand intricately carved with more bats and lingzhi. Daoguang Period (1821-1850)

A Chinese porcelain bowl used for growing bulb flowers. The bowl dates to the Republic period, and measures 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 2". The landscape decoration has been done in a ruby pink under glaze, and there is calligraphy done in black on each end. The white porcelain shows orange peel texture, and when new there was gold on the rim. Condition: The condition is excellent, but most of the gold on the rim is gone, and there are small kiln flaws. Hard porcelain dish, cobalt blue underglaze decoration. Completely hand painted. No printed or decaled design. The openings are cut empirically with a very simple tool. The drawing is very well executed by an excellent painter, especially the dragon. There are tiny scales, one of which is large but very superficial. Enlarged photos show them to us. Otherwise good condition. Diameter about 25cm. There are many Chinese plates in the 20th century with this "rice pattern"...
